well, i recently went thru a huge move to a new service provider i am now on. i wont advertise them by saying who are they but they recently went thru serious technical problem with my server i am hosted on. that raised a question.

there are alot of users out there that day by day suffer from bad hosting providers and alot of downtime and sometime sticking to the same bad hosting provider because all of them say “I wont start moving my stuff around..” i compare it to the abusive father syndrome. you always give another chance to the hosting provider to clean up their act and start behaving correctly. its pretty weird that switching to another hosting provider is fairly easy but there is a minority that actually do that because alot of users consider the burden of actually moving like moving an apartment where you have to take care of all the stuff to work right away especially when you got a few websites there that are online services like the ones i got. most of them will ramble on that the downtime is outrageous and that they are REALLY considering leaving the Big Hosters company for good and then when everything is back online they all go back to their U1 Rack moles and shut their yap.

on the other hand sits the hosting company smiling knowing you wont leave them so fast because they know you are afraid. afraid of change. just like nobody gets up and leave his day job to be a Gardner users don’t leave their hosting company’s because they are uncertain stuff like wont happen again or even worse fall on some two dime company that resell their storage on a dell 400mhz pc on a 1.5 adsl. (there are a few out there … believe me…), how many people do you know that get up one morning and decide to move to Canada… even if they know the living there is much cheaper and that they will probably earn more money there by just doing snow angels all day they wont because we are a little scarry human race afraid of changing our habits so bad that we will even accept the fact that something is bad and suffer just for the peace of mind knowing that it cant get any worse.

where is the breaking point in moving to a new hosting company? a Representative shooting you in the foot? some people will probably still keep their account online there also.
another problem today is that in the old days you probably had some 500mb account or even 100mb account so everything was still download able but in this day and age everybody got 10gig account like godaddy is offering 10gig account for around 7$. you start and start collecting more and more data. huge amounts of data. enormous mountains of useless data. directory’s like main_old1 - 15 that are all junk but hey… you got the space then who cares. You will care when you want to move. or in my case a gallery of some club that weighs around 2gig. who has the bandwidth to download that? not to mention UPLOAD it on a adsl with 128k upload. so you end up paying for two services for 5 month together until you finish your move and decide you firmly believe your happy with your new choice.

and dont get me started on those “hosting comparing websites” that sell comparing rates for money. that’s why good hosting firms earn reputation very quickly. its all black market. if someone got a good hosting company he tells a friend and you hear from a friend of a friend that he is on a good hosting company and some actually keep it private hush hush from the fear of land rush that will cause downtime for them. that actually happened to me on powweb.com. they were really excellent at start. small and private until they jumped on the 7$ bandwagon and started having major crashes and i toke a hike and moved to the incredible globat.com hosting company. apparently they implemented the hosting features i wrote above with the dell 400mhz. they are the only company that i didn’t even finish uploading my stuff until the trouble started and i ran elsewhere. amazingly their spokesman is Dustin Diamond the nerd from ‘Saved by the bell’ that got some headlines on some tapes they found. they cant get a break.

well.. that’s my rambling on Abusive hosting company’s. … dear hosting company… don’t kick me. I’m useless without you…
