Sorry sorry sorry meetro guys, I really like you. I like your attitude. Your Work. Your idea. But…
Well, I tried the new meetro client after i saw their new website. To tell ya the truth i miss the old one. Even after i wrote about their workoholic attitude made me envy them i really am disappointed. Is that all you can give us? a buggy client that looks terrible?
Graphically it simply breaks. They might have moved from .net to MFC or something but i got a lot of purple “Transparent color” corners that are buggy. Maybe there was supposed to be some border around it. But the whole client is square’s like with no style at all. Almost too sharp for my desktop filled with round corners and semi Tran’s colors. are you ready for vistalic style yet?
I still am trying to figure out what is going on with that client. It might be some local bugs on my machine but the sidebar is simply terrible. It jumps in at any hover in a bulky animation. I just wanted to resize the client and i get the Menu on the side. Its just terrible. The top menus are the worse. I need to click a menu far from the original menu i want because menus are hiding each other when the overlap even the one that i clicked. Boys. Menu items open UNDER the Initial menu.
That side bar… errr.. Its that annoying. There’s one thing i hate is taking up room when ya don’t need it. I’m not even logged in and it shows me a button to edit my profile. Don’t ya find it strikingly odd? Every button i click gives error that im not logged it. Why show it in the first place?
That sidebar is proven wrong anyway you look at it. Clicking the button >> arrows gives me [ QUIT? ] button. If there’s something ya don’t want to-do is give the quit function that much of promotional level in your client.
I Selected the automatically log me in and the remember my password but it didn’t bother remembering my Email address like messenger gives ya with dropdowns. And trying to log in as [ Blank Blank Blank ]. That’s a bug ladies.
They didn’t bother doing hover/focus stages for the buttons on the client so i have no idea what is active and what is not. A simple highlight could be great. I know they went far with integrating the client with other IM systems but that has been proven wrong every time someone tried doing that. Take Trillian for example. You cant beat the original. Its like buying a knockoff when the original is free. I setup my client for my street. They did hell of a job with the database pinpointing my location by street level but if they don’t show users around me i just get 18miles and above users… 18miles and 8000 miles!. I see users from the u.s when i live in Israel. isn’t that a bit odd? I felt better when i had no users then just showing me random users from around the world.
They realized the potential user use competitive networks so they added the invite button. But why when i click the Go button for the AIM,Yahoo thing i get google.com?, Did i mention the Invite via email isnt working either? i got an error page. The Preferences panel is simply unreadable. They toke the time to design the tabs and placed a white font on a white gradiant tab. That’s simply unreadable.
As far as the website, its pretty nice. They renovated the whole design and i like the flash in the front that shows users with their names. and they added a few Myspace beast services like the Meetro badge to show your location and a few other Services for users that own blogs or signed on social networks can use.
All and all its a really nice piece of software. I really am trying to use it but im having trouble finding the use of it if im outside the u.s. Ya might want to concider containing it to selected countrys or something.
Am i still invited to your BBQ User party?

appricate the detailed feedback on your user experience. i saw your post on our sf chron story, glad to hear that sounds interesting to you, i highly recommend it.
and taking that story into account, we’re a pretty small team, running a number of different products (web, mac, and pc) so we’re constantly making compromises between adding new features and fixing bugs. I hope you stick with us as we iron our all are patches. Meetro is making it’s way to becoming a very cool (and mature) client.
